Starting strong with the launch of NordVPN in 2012, cybersecurity giant Nord Security has been working tirelessly ever since to protect users online. In 2019, the company expanded its suite of tools with the impressive NordPass.
With a clear track record of zero security breaches, this password manager caters to all users with its NordPass Personal and NordPass Business versions. Whichever you choose, you can rest assured knowing that your confidential data and passwords are safeguarded with top-tier security measures like XChaCha20 encryption and zero-knowledge architecture.
However, NordPass Business takes password management to a whole new level. With the introduction of the business admin panel, data breach scanner, and activity log, cybersecurity vulnerabilities in businesses are a thing of the past. Checking out these cutting-edge features before committing to a long-term subscription couldn’t be simpler with the 14-day free trial. The icing on the cake is that prices begin at only $1.79 per user per month.
NordPass Personal and Business both include all the standard features. First and foremost, the customer vault is refreshingly simple. Containing personal data such as passwords, secure notes, and credit card details, this virtual vault is safely protected by a master password and optional multi-factor authentication (MFA). By making the interface easy to navigate and devoid of unnecessary information and providing quick access to credentials, it’s evident that NordPass prioritizes the user experience.
As expected, the software includes a password generator that pops up whenever a new password is needed. While offered by most password managers, this one comes with a few handy extras that are less typical, such as customizing with capital letters, digits, symbols, and even length.
Furthermore, keeping up with modern technology in traditional NordPass style, the software creates, stores, and auto-fills passkeys. However, getting to this point may come as a challenge. We found that when making new accounts for websites that are known to support passkeys, NordPass didn’t display the option to create one but instead just showed a newly generated password.
Alongside all these standard features, NordPass Business users have access to many other exclusive tools. Firstly, the clean and intuitive admin panel is home to all administrative actions. Here, account owners can invite members via email or link or by importing a file containing email addresses. We found it useful that with the Teams or Business plans, which have a limit on active users, members can be suspended or deleted to clear space for others.
Beyond this, owners are authorized to recover accounts when a user gets locked out. Plus, the activity log tracks members’ actions, such as when they edit a password or access the mobile app. With this being monitored, there just isn’t any room for suspicious activities to slip through the net.
The most satisfying of all NordPass’s impressive tools are the understated yet highly insightful password health statistics, which are neatly displayed on the dashboard. These informative visuals are the best friend of whoever oversees monitoring, analyzing, and maintaining the health of a company’s passwords.
At a single glance, it’s possible to view the number of vulnerable, weak, reused, and old (over 90 days) passwords across the whole organization – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Business account owners can even see which employees are using these insecure passwords.
As a result, potential security risks are nipped in the bud. Administrators can alert the individual, who then accesses their personal vault to see which accounts need new passwords. At no point is private information in danger of being revealed to anyone other than the person it belongs to.
NordPass Business’ cross-platform support ticks a lot of boxes. For instance, the vault is accessible via browser extensions (except for Internet Explorer) and desktop, iOS, and Android apps. So, almost anywhere you go, it goes with you.
Something we appreciate is the consistency in appearance and functionality across devices. However, the desktop apps don’t update automatically, and users will need to check for updates to avoid getting left behind with outdated versions.
When it comes to the mobile app, there’s no doubt that it’s intuitive, straightforward to use, and smooth. It does, however, have one fatal flaw for Business users. The admin panel can only be accessed via a browser and isn’t available in the mobile app. We found this disappointing as it’s one of the core elements that Business customers are paying for.
Nevertheless, it’s still worth downloading the app as it lets users perform actions like adding credentials and sharing passwords. We also liked that it updates automatically if the setting is configured in the respective app store. Plus, it’s possible to lock the app, protecting your data during a security breach on your device.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take a tech wizard to set up NordPass Business on desktop and mobile devices. All that’s needed to activate the 14-day free trial is to type in basic personal information and click on an email link to create a master password.
Once the account’s up and running, it takes only a matter of minutes to install the browser extensions and load up the web vault and admin panel. Similarly, downloading the mobile app from the Apple Store or Google Play is straightforward – but don’t misplace the master password, as it’s required at every login. Additionally, users are logged out after a short period of inactivity unless they change the settings.
The one app that lets the side down is the desktop vault. It isn’t the easiest to find, hiding at the bottom of the homepage. Fortunately, this problem won’t bug you for long as an FAQ provides clear instructions on how to set it up.
When it comes to storing personal data in the vault, we found it pleasingly simple. It’s possible to import passwords from browsers and other password managers by dragging and dropping CSV files or browsing for them.
It’s no coincidence that NordPass has a reputation for its world-class online security and privacy standards. Laying the foundation with zero-knowledge architecture and XChaCha20 encryption, the company takes data protection seriously. In fact, it never has access to personal information stored in private vaults, as credentials are first encrypted on the user’s device and then saved in the cloud.
Business users have the power to create employee protocols, such as making MFA mandatory for accessing private vaults. Plus, giving ultimate control to admins, it’s possible to set an automatic lock on members’ vaults.
Further protection lies in the data breach scanner. While members without admin rights can scan their own email addresses, Business account holders get a full report detailing which members have compromised accounts. However, unlike most actions within the dashboard, inputting the company domain information takes some effort. It’s not as simple as just typing in the domain – you must verify domain ownership by adding DNS TXT to your DNS record. What’s more, this takes up to 72 hours to work.
Nevertheless, NordPass doesn’t fail to impress with its commitment to streamlined and robust authentication methods. From biometric authentication in the mobile app and Google Workspace SSO to the standalone NordPass Authenticator, this software covers it all.
One of NordPass Business‘s key selling points is its pricing. When considering the dedicated admin panel, brimming with features that allow management staff to monitor the whole company’s online security, the price is undeniably reasonable. This helps us to overlook the fact that there’s no free version of NordPass Business.
Smaller companies can count on the Teams plan that supports up to ten users and includes the essential, although limited, admin panel. Still, this plan is priced reasonably at $1.79 per user per month with a 2-year subscription.
NordPass Business is for larger companies, for 5 to 250 users. It includes a centralized dashboard with an overview of the company’s password health and data breach statistics. With a 2-year billing cycle, up to 150 users cost $3.59 per user per month. Teams of over 150 users require a custom quote. The same thing happens to companies that opt for the Enterprise plan, which supports an unlimited number of users.
Unfortunately, monthly billing isn’t available, but the 1-year plans are a good option if you don’t want to make a big commitment. Better yet, there’s a 14-day free trial and a 14-day money-back guarantee.
While not the case for NordPass Personal, the only payment methods accepted for NordPass Business are credit and debit cards.
It’s easy to be critical of a company that doesn’t offer phone support, but this wouldn’t be fair in the case of NordPass. The company easily makes up for this with its support via chat, email, FAQ pages, a blog, and social media outlets.
Although the platform states that Personal and Business users have access to 24/7 support, there’s more to this than meets the eye. In fact, the designated Business team is only available between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. GMT. Still, the Personal team steps in if needed.
Despite this, we found both support teams to be incredibly helpful. An agent replied within seconds every time we reached out via chat, and our emails received a response within 12 hours. All our questions were answered in a friendly manner.
With its high-tech encryption and zero-knowledge architecture, companies can set aside any cybersecurity worries with NordPass Business. All the essentials of a Personal subscription can be enjoyed, like the password generator and unlimited storage, but users unlock a whole new level of online protection with Business.
Bringing everything together in one place, the admin panel puts the power in your hands. There’s almost no chance of security threats materializing into dangerous breaches, as account holders can view password health and data leak risks and address issues early on. With this in mind, it’s a shame that the entire dashboard isn’t available to Teams users and that the admin panel can’t be accessed on desktop or mobile devices.
Another slight downside is the lack of a free version, but this is outweighed by the 14-day free trial.
